The Mississippi Heritage Consortium is located on US 17150 Highway 49 in Belzoni Mississippi, on the Heritage Village Compound and is indivisual entity. Based on research and statistics, the feasibility study revealed the best location for the Cultural Heritage Project was on Highway 49, a major traffic flow, where more than an estimated 9,000 travelers travel each day, making this the ideal location for the Cultural Heritage Project. The mission of the Fannie Lou Hamer Civil Rights Museum and Cultural, Arts and Heritage Development Center Inc. is to use stories that have been passed down from generation to generation which define the birth of the blues, while chopping and picking cotton in the Mississippi Delta. While doing an oral and visual interpretation and reenactment of the many stories collected performers will perform reenactments inspired by those who had to meet in secret places "camp meetings", or "bush meetings", because they needed to meet one another to share their joys, pains and hopes. Our mission is through the performing arts, offering the stories which will bring the blues, gospel and civil rights to life, to give a greater impact to the audience while working with the Reverend George Lee Museums of African American History and Heritage and looking at the role of Mississippi’s history and African American history as it relates to the American story.
